Orlando International Airport Exhibit Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
ORLANDO, FL. – Travelers coming through Orlando International Airport this week were the first to enjoy a new art display celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month.
In partnering with the Hispanic Heritage Committee of Greater Orange County, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority installed 18 paintings to showcase a selection of artists who responded to the 2021 call to artists. “Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope” features Central Florida artists who are originally from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
Additional pieces are also on display as part of a collaboration with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando with the Colombian Consulate in Orlando.
“It’s important that we honor Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate the diverse culture of Central Florida, but also to celebrate the passengers that fly into Orlando International Airport,” said Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “Currently, we have air service to 10 destinations in Latin America, which accounts for 47 percent of our international service.”
The Hispanic Heritage Committee is an Orange County Government employee volunteer-led organization, and their companion exhibition is on display at the Orange County Administration Center in downtown Orlando. The airport exhibition continues through October 28, and is located on Level 3 of the Main Terminal, near the Security Checkpoints for Gates 70 to 129.
