Orlando International Airport Ceases Passenger Flights
Orlando, FL. – As of 10:30am today, all passenger flights have departed Orlando International Airport in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Ian.
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has now ceased commercial operations at the airport; however, the airport is not closed. The airport will remain open to accept emergency/aid and relief flights, if necessary. Safety remains a priority.
GOAA has elevated its preparedness. The following activities are in place:
- The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at full activation
- Jet bridges are tied down
- Ticket counters have been covered for security and protection
- Multiple daily communications with city, county, state and federal emergency management officials are ongoing.
The public is reminded that the Orlando International Airport is not an authorized shelter. Anyone arriving at the airport will be taken to an approved shelter.
Commercial operations are expected to resume on Friday depending on damage assessment to airport property and restoration as required. The Authority will continue to monitor the storm and provide additional updates as needed.
