Orlando International Airport Plans to Cease Operations at 10:30 Wednesday Morning for Hurricane Ian
ORLANDO, FL. – The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), working in conjunction with more than 40 airlines that service Orlando International Airport (MCO), has decided that out of an abundance of caution in anticipation of Hurricane Ian, the final commercial flight at MCO will depart tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.
MCO will then cease commercial operations at that time, however the airport will NOT CLOSE. (this distinction allows the airport to accept emergency / aid and relief flights if necessary)
Passengers are strongly encouraged to contact their airlines and rental car companies for flight rescheduling and rental car return information.
Passengers should NOT come to Orlando International Airport to wait out the storm because MCO is NOT an authorized shelter. Anyone arriving at the airport after operations have ceased will be taken to an approved shelter.
Latest Information:
- MCO ceases commercial operations at 10:30am Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
- Operations are underway to secure jet bridges and curbsides.
- The airport Emergency Operations Center (EOC) begins modified activation this afternoon with full activation scheduled for tomorrow morning.
- Multiple daily communications are ongoing with city, county, state and federal emergency management officials.
- Multiple daily communications are ongoing with the National Weather Service / National Hurricane Center to track the storm.
GOAA will continue to monitor the storm and provide additional updates as they are warranted.
SPECIAL MEDIA NOTE: There will be an Orlando International Airport specific news briefing with airport leaders at 3 p.m. this afternoon in front of the GOAA offices. (third level of the main terminal building, “A” side, next to gates 70-129, down the hall from Starbuck’s Coffee)
