New Displays at Orlando International Airport Feature Notable Central Florida Residents

ORLANDO, FL. – Central Florida isn’t only a top destination for tourists – it’s the place where a growing number of celebrities, professional athletes and America’s brightest minds are proud to call home, they are “Hometown Heroes.”

This week Orlando International Airport (MCO) will unveil a campaign that connects travelers with the “Hometown Heroes” who live, work and play in Central Florida. Airport displays will highlight welcoming messages that feature several notable residents, including:

  • Lee Corso, Sports broadcaster and ESPN College GameDay analyst and former longtime college football coach
  • Dr. Deborah German, Nationally recognized Harvard graduate and founding dean of the University of Central Florida College of Medicine
  • Norm Lewis, Tony-nominated Broadway, TV and film actor, professional singer and known for his history- making starring role in Broadway’s The Phantom of the Opera
  • Peter Pritchard, World-renowned international zoologist, turtle authority, Time magazine “Hero of the Planet” and author of 12 books
  • Annika Sorenstam, Retired Hall of Fame pro golfer with 90 LPGA and international wins and supporter of healthy, active lifestyles for children

The “Hometown Heroes” represent the area’s businesses in national and international arenas

“We’re honored that each person recognized relies on Orlando’s award-winning airport to connect them with the world,” said Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “Everyone knows that Central Florida is a wonderful place to visit and we want to help spread the word that it’s also a fantastic area to live.”
The display complements the community’s branding program of “You don’t know the half of it,” which highlights the personalities and activities that make the airport and region successful.
